Attendance Pupils' regular attendance is vital if a steady level of progress is to be maintained. Dalriada pupils are expected to be absent only when absolutely necessary. On return to school pupils should bring a note of explanation to the teacher. Should parents want to take their children out of school for any reason it would be appreciated if the school was informed in advance. Safety We take the issue of pupil safety very seriously. Pupils are supervised at all times by teaching staff or supervisory assistants. Pupils in Reception-Year 3 must be collected from classrooms by parents or child-minders. If anyone other than this is collecting a child we expect to be informed. Pupils in Year 4 - Year 7 may be met by their parents in the car park but should return to the school foyer if parents are not there. Pupils in Reception and Year 1 have “guardians” in Year 7, who befriend them and look out for them. The Tufty Club and visits from the police community service form part of our Safety Education programme. On trips out of school we always use buses with seat belts and pupils are not allowed out of seats once the vehicle is in motion. | Punctuality We like to encourage punctuality in our pupils and we anticipate parents' co-operation in this matter. In unavoidable circumstances a note of explanation would be appreciated. Reception and Year 1 pupils may have play first thing in the morning but this is an essential part of the learning process and should not be regarded as optional. We would appreciate it if parents would be punctual when collecting children in the afternoon as young children can become anxious when parents are late. Education for Mutual Understanding We consider Education for Mutual understanding to be an essential part of our school programme. This cross curricular theme lays the foundations for our pupils to grow into caring, tolerant and understanding adults. We provide a journey of under-standing which helps pupils develop respect for themselves and others, a respect which crosses the social, racial, religious and cultural divide. |
